history

The existence of the Department of Dance Education FPSD-UPI is inseparable from the development of the Indonesian University of Education (UPI), which began with the establishment of PTPG on October 20, 1954, then changed to IKIP Bandung in 1963. At that time, the Department of Dance Education was under the auspices of Sendratasik Education Department from 1980-1981 to 2009. At that time, institutionally, the name of the Department of Dance Education was the Dance Arts Education Study Program. At that time, program management fully used a project system by experts in the arts and education sector. It is noted that several big names have fostered the Dance Arts Education Study Program, including Drs. H. Karna Yudibrata, Drs. H. Elin Syamsuri, Uho Holidin, R. Nugraha Sudiredja (late), Drs. M. Saleh, and Dr. CJBeny.
The Dance Arts Education Study Program is always adapting, and trying to anticipate various issues of changing education in the context of globalization. The realization was that in 1993 the Bachelor level was opened by imposing a flexible curriculum, which gave freedom to students to choose courses outside the study program they were participating in across majors. The goal is to produce quality graduates who are supported by additional abilities outside their scientific fields and can compete in the world of work.
Along with the challenges, future opportunities and increasing public interest, in 2009 the Dance Arts Education Study Program developed into the Dance Arts Education Department. This change is considered important to consider in order to offset the change in IKIP status to UPI BHMN which demands independence and improves the quality of education services to the community. And with the change in UPI’s status to PTN with a Legal Entity, the Dance Arts Education Department changed to the Dance Arts Education Department.
